Thank you for attending the Groundbreaking Ceremony

We had a very successful Groundbreaking Ceremony last week, and we were pleased to see so many students, faculty, and staff interested in this project. We heard from outgoing President Jeremy McElroy, VP Admin Mike Silley, UBC President Stephen Toope, among others. The ceremony included lunch, a history AMS Student Union Buildings (see below), speeches, and the actual ground breaking in the snow! More photos are on the way soon, so check back often. In the meantime, check out The Ubyssey’s coverage. They’ve even included a video of the ground breaking in the snow.

APSC 261 First Term SEEDS Reports Are Now Available

We want to thank the Applied Science 261 students for conducting triple bottom line assessments on several specific topics, including a sustainable atrium art installation, sustainable display technologies, Pavegen (electricity generating) steps, green walls, and energy harvesting exercise equipment. A triple bottom line assessment takes into account social, economic, and environmental considerations when determining the feasibility and wisdom of a particular project, activity or investment.

Students completed these projects as part of the UBC SEEDS (Social Ecological Economic Development Studies) program, which connects campus operations with academic research. The AMS is very grateful to the UBC SEEDS office and staff as well as the APSC 261 faculty and students. The reports are available on the Documents page. If, for any reason, you are unable to open a document, please email newsub@ams.ubc.ca.

After carefully reviewing these reports, the AMS New SUB staff will make recommendations on next steps for implementation.
